People worldwide are preparing for beach getaways as beach season draws closer. However, you may wish to confirm the safety circumstances of your trip before packing your swimwear, towel, and umbrella. The outdoor website Outforia researched to identify the most hazardous beaches in the United States.
The study focused on average summer temperatures, shark attacks, air and water pollution, crime reports, and deaths from lightning strikes and surf zone accidents. A possible “pathogen storm” caused by this year’s 5,000-mile-wide seaweed bloom moving toward Florida is also on the list of dangers.
Malibu Beach
Although Malibu is known for being luxurious, if you visit Malibu Beach, you may learn a secret. Malibu Beach and Capistrano Beach are tied for having the highest air pollution levels, but there are other types of pollution as well. The water quality at the beach is 61.30 out of 100.
Deerfield Beach
Because of its “excellent water quality, beach conditions, safety services, public information, and habitat conservation policies,” Deerfield Beach was awarded the prestigious Blue Wave label by the Clean Beach Council.
However, cleanliness alone does not imply safety. Like Belleair Beach, Deerfield Beach has scorching summer temperatures of 89.8 degrees, and like Belleair Beach, it has also seen one lightning strike death in July 2007.
Hanakapiai Beach, Hawaii
The breathtaking three-kilometer climb to Hanakapiai Beach on the island of Kauai demonstrates how appearances may be misleading. Even though the location appears to be a paradise, the sea has powerful rip currents.
The trail sign maintains a running total of the number of fatalities caused by tourists who choose to swim despite caution. The Outdoor Project claims that the lack of a reef in this coastal location explains why the rip currents are so powerful.
New Smyrna Beach, Florida
The ambiguous truth is that New Smyrna is more than simply a name given to a pond teeming with guppies out of fear. The finned nobility of the deep can find regal lodgings along this section of Florida’s coast. With an overall danger score of 8.14, Florida’s New Smyrna Beach is the deadliest beach in the US.
With 32 shark attacks, New Smyrna Beach had more than any other beach. This one had more than twice as many compared to other US beaches. Even though they don’t often attack people, sharks should remind you that you’re not the largest fish in this pond. Based on an increase in sightings, it seems like feeding time, so we may ask the age-old question, “Who’s lunch?”
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Myrtle Beach may not have the same shark-infested oceans or pollution problems as other places on our list, but SafeWise research based on crimes per capita in 2017 ranked it as America’s third most dangerous city. Still, locals denied the ranking.
Siesta Beach
Siesta Beach has stunning white sand and vivid blue waves, making it very welcoming. However, after hearing about the five confirmed shark attacks and one fatal lightning strike, tourists may decide to travel somewhere else. Not to add, with an average July high temperature of 89.5 degrees, it’s one of the hottest beaches.
Daytona Beach
Despite being dubbed “The World’s Most Famous Beach,” this beach ranks second most unsafe in the country. Allow the song “Jaws” to play in your head as you consider this: With 39 recorded cases, Daytona Beach has the most shark attacks caused by landslides. There were 581 recorded crimes between May and September 2021, although the majority were classified as non-violent.

Cape Disappointment State Park, Washington

Trail Chick claims that since 1792, the bar has sunk over 2,000 large ships, giving it the moniker “graveyard of the Pacific.” The major search and rescue effort on the Northwest Coast is managed by the Coast Guard Station at Cape Disappointment because of the difficult weather.
Ocean View Beach
Although the beach’s name suggests that it’s pleasant and picturesque, reports from locals and tourists indicate this isn’t the case. The least desirable “beach with the most polluted water” title goes to Ocean View Beach. Destructive algal blooms have already occurred in the water.
Atlantic Beach
The seas off Atlantic Beach are not the safest, even with a comparatively low crime rate. On a scale of 100, the beach scores 66.2 for water pollution. The average beach temperature is 88 degrees, so if you want to enjoy the sun, be cautious when entering the water to cool down.
Miami Beach
Miami Beach is one of the most well-known beaches in the nation, yet many people are unaware of its true level of danger, and it has nothing to do with the area’s high crime rate. With an average July high temperature of 90 degrees, Miami Beach is the warmest beach in the United States. Although many beachgoers prefer warmer weather, Miami Beach may experience dangerously high temperatures.

Capistrano Beach
Although contaminated waters and shark attacks spring to mind when you think of beach hazards, there are other factors to take into account when determining a beach’s level of safety. Air pollution threatens the safety of Capistrano Beach, which shares the highest levels of air pollution with three other neighboring beaches in the Los Angeles region.
Hollywood Beach
Looking in from the outside, Hollywood Beach is the perfect getaway location. Stores and eateries border it and has stunning ocean views. However, don’t be easily seduced by the attraction; Hollywood Beach has a high water pollution score of 47.37 out of 100, high crime rates, and a history of four shark attacks.
